Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and dried oregano; cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the canned tomatoes with their juice. Crush the tomatoes gently with a spoon and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Season generously with salt and pepper, adding red pepper flakes if desired. Let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes for rich flavors.
  5. Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil leaves and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Serve over your favorite pasta and enjoy!
