Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup softened butter
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center; add yeast mixture and beaten eggs. Stir until combined.
- Knead the dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Incorporate butter: Gradually add softened butter while kneading until fully absorbed.
- First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the buns: Punch down the dough, divide into 12 equal portions, shape into balls, and place on a lined baking tray.
- Final rise: Cover with a towel and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with beaten egg for shine. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For added flavor, experiment by incorporating herbs or cheese into the dough.
- Store leftover buns wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for longer storage.
