Description
Indulge in a slice of classic Boston cream pie, featuring fluffy cake layers filled with rich vanilla custard and topped with decadent chocolate ganache. A true crowd-pleaser for any occasion!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ¾ cups cake flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time to the butter mixture; mix well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually combine dry ingredients with the wet batter while alternating with milk until just blended.
- Divide batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the custard filling, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream until hot but not boiling; pour over chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
- Once cooled, stack one cake layer on a serving plate, spread custard over it, then add the second layer on top. Pour ganache over the top to let it drip down the sides.
Notes
- For a unique twist on flavor, try substituting vanilla extract with almond extract in the custard filling or adding fresh fruit like strawberries for an enhanced presentation.
