Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 6 cups fresh apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ tsp salt
- 6–8 tbsp ice water
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the crust: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in chilled butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until dough forms; divide, wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- 2. Make the filling: Toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- 3. Roll out one disc of dough to fit your pie dish; fill with apple mixture. Roll out the second disc and cover the filling. Seal edges by crimping.
- 4. Bake: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Cut slits in the top crust for steam release. Bake for 15 minutes; reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- 5. Cool: Let the pie cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- Swap some sugar with honey or maple syrup for a unique flavor.
