- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups tart apples, peeled and diced (e.g., Granny Smith)
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk and yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Combine flour, sugar, and salt in another bowl. Add melted butter to the yeast mixture and stir into the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover it, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
- While the dough rises, toss diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon to prepare the filling.
- Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick and spread softened butter over it. Evenly sprinkle the apple mixture on top.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long edge and slice into approximately 12 rolls. Place cut-side up in a greased baking dish and let them rise for an additional 15-30 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before icing with a mixture of powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk.
